WORLD LANGUAGES
SPANISH I
¿Quienes somos? In this course, students
independently use their learning to develop a
sense of individual and cultural identity. They learn
to empathize with others across linguistic and
cultural differences by effectively and con昀椀dently
communicating and expressing themselves in
basic contexts while applying language structures
to create meaning for a variety of purposes.
Students learn vocabulary and structures in the
target language in culturally authentic contexts
through speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Through student-centered, project-based learning
students gain greater ownership of and interest in
the material. The key themes within the course are
introductions, descriptions of self, family, housing,
clothing, and activities.
Note: This course is open to students in grades 7-12.
SPANISH II
¿Cuál es mi experiencia diaria y cómo puedo
expresarla? In Spanish II, students continue to solidify
essential language skills, build the fundamental
vocabulary and structures needed to communicate
daily life experiences, and become familiar with
elements of Hispanic culture. Students progress
from communicating in short, basic sentences in the
present tense to having conversations in the present
tense and being able to discuss events in the past
and the near future. Units cover daily activities,
school life, pastimes, hobbies, and our communities.
Students connect to various aspects of daily life in
the Spanish-speaking world through many cultural
readings and authentic materials.
Prerequisite: Spanish I
