FRENCH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE VI
French Language and Culture VI offers an enriched
learning experience to elevate students’ pro昀椀ciency
in the language by introducing compelling new
materials and topics. The course places a strong
emphasis on active communication, honing
grammar and writing skills, and cultivating a deeper
appreciation for the history, literature, and culture
of the Francophone world. Through exploration of
diverse topics such as architecture, poets of the
negritude movement, discerning real from false
information, social media dynamics, environmental
concerns, and social issues, students engage in
intellectually stimulating discussions that leverage
their analytical skills developed in other academic
disciplines. This thematic approach provides
context for the review and application of advanced
grammatical structures, fostering the integration of
these structures into their daily communication.
Prerequisite: French Language and Culture V.
Note: This course is open to students in grades 9-12
FRENCH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE VII
French Language and Culture VII continues the
intensive exploration of Francophone civilization,
culture, and literature, while also emphasizing
further oral communication and writing skills. A
review of advanced grammatical concepts based
on students’ speci昀椀c needs supports engagement
with short stories, literary excerpts, videos, poems,
and articles from French magazines or newspapers,
all chosen for thematic or cultural interest. Some
of the units include street art, contemporary poets,
uses of AI, excerpts from Voltaire’s Candide, a
timeline of French history, and French Canadian
short movies. Students engage in discussions
about daily situations as well as cultural aspects of
French and Francophone countries, express opinions
and perspectives in speci昀椀c reading, deliver oral
presentations, participate in formal debates, and
write several compositions and poetry.
Prerequisite: French Language and Culture VI
Note: This course is open to students in grades 9-12.
