SCIENCE 6: ENERGY AND CYCLES
In Science 6, students explore the question, “What
is the role of cycles in scienti昀椀c phenomena?.”
This course delves into the interconnected and
cyclic nature of matter such as nutrient and rock
cycles, emphasizing hands-on learning and the
scienti昀椀c method. Students engage in hands-on
exploration of the concepts taught in class through
a focus on the impact of gardens on health and
environmental justice. They develop foundational
skills in plant biology, soil science, cycles of matter
through gardening, composting, and nutrition. They

design and conduct their own experiments while
growing their own produce on campus. Finally,
they investigate how community urban gardens
can impact the environment, and health, and their
role in environmental justice. As they engage in
these hands-on projects and re昀氀ective practices,
students learn to think and work like scientists while
making a positive impact on their community.
