CAPSTONE
8TH GRADE CAPSTONE
Students live and study Costa Rican
ecology by trekking into the rainforest
and partnering with the local Brörán
community on economic, ecological,
and cultural sustainability projects.
In their journeys, they plant trees
supporting reforestation projects
and learn about climate change
impacts. They learn about microplastics and their effects on marine life and coral reefs,
followed by service work, such as cleaning beaches and sorting through the trash
collected. Students return to their 昀椀nal semester of middle school having developed
cross-cultural understanding through the mutual sharing of stories and experiences. It’s a
transformative adventure in personal discovery, leadership building, and design thinking.
Note: This capstone experience occurs during Intersession.
