6TH GRADE
In 6th grade, students participate in The World
Peace Game, hosted by The World Peace Game
Foundation. Students will engage with a handson political simulation that gives players the
opportunity to explore the connectedness of
the global community through the lens of the
economic, social, and environmental crises and
the imminent threat of war. The goal of the game
is to extricate each country from dangerous
circumstances and achieve global prosperity with
the least amount of military intervention. As “nation
teams,” students will gain greater understanding
of the critical impact of information and how it is
used.
7TH GRADE
In 7th grade, students dive deep into sustainability and food insecurity. Through guided
inquiry, students learn to develop questions and seek to understand the economic, social
and environmental components of food systems on a global, national and local scale.
Students critically examine the United Nations sustainability goals in order develop their
own sustainability initiatives and partner with local organizations to have real impact in
their communities.
INTERSESSION
8TH GRADE
Field 8th graders embark on a week-long journey to Costa Rica during
Intersession. Students live and study Costa Rican ecology by trekking into
the rainforest and partnering with the local Brörán community on economic,
ecological, and cultural sustainability projects. During their journeys, they plant
trees supporting reforestation projects and learn about climate change impacts.
They learn about microplastics and their effects on marine life and coral reefs,
followed by service work, such as cleaning beaches and sorting through the
trash collected. Students return to their 昀椀nal semester of middle school having
developed cross-cultural understanding through the mutual sharing of stories
and experiences. It’s a transformative adventure in personal discovery, leadership
building, and design thinking.
