THEATRE CONCENTRATION
What is the job of an actor? How do we create the world of a story through production?
Intended for students interested in the study of acting and theater production, this
mixed-level class is open to all students, regardless of experience. Students dive deeply
into theatre vocabulary, improvisation, character work, scene and script analysis, and
production and performance design. In addition, they engage with theatre history,
technical design, and a study of a wide variety of playwrights. This class focuses on
acting technique and application in performance – students have multiple performance
showcase opportunities throughout the year both in and out of class, culminating in
performances at community events like Studio Day.
Note: While designated a concentration, this course has no prerequisite. This class may
be repeated. Each year in the class is a unique experience.
THEATRE PRODUCTION
STUDIO
How can actors, designers, and technicians work together to create theatre art? This class
is designed for both actors and technicians who have taken the concentration class (or
get departmental approval) and want to grow their performance and production
skills. Students explore all aspects of producing theater - from character
development to production design and everything in between. This course is for
actors, technicians, and those who see themselves as both. Students do not need
to choose a track as they have opportunities
throughout the year to act, perform, and
be on a crew. For the acting component,
students rehearse and perform scenes and
short plays. Production responsibilities include
set building, costumes, props, and stage
management. They also support the theatre
department productions three times a year
with set construction, costume building, and
prop design. The class collaborates on scene
study, production of one-act plays, and
building the world of a play while working
together as a production team. Students have
opportunities to explore areas of personal interest. Performance opportunities will
include Studio Day and other community events.
Prerequisite: Theatre Concentration or department chair approval. This class may
be repeated. Each year in the class is a unique experience.
