2024-2025 Course Flipbook v2 - Flipbook - Page 60
MUSIC
Where do we begin our understanding of music, both as listeners
and performers? How can we begin to communicate through music?
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of musicmaking and ensemble performance and begins to develop the skills
needed to create original works of music. Field students learn musical
elements, including rhythm, melody, and harmony, and engage in
technical explorations of related instrument families to support their
understanding. Students often drive the selection of musical content,
leading to greater investment and rewarding live performances for
the group. Students learn to take ownership of their learning and
progress in technical skills on their chosen instrument (including
voice). They work to apply their growth to ensemble communication
skills developed in class. In the spring, students dive into projects
designed to inspire their creativity and challenge their musicianship.
This multifaceted course culminates with students presenting live
performances for the Field community, as well as exhibiting creative
projects in multiple formats.
