FRENCH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE V
This course allows students to further develop their communicative competence in
French and deepen their understanding of Francophone cultures. Through study of
authentic texts, 昀椀ction and non昀椀ction, and audio-visual materials from the 16th century
to the present day, students develop critical reading skills, increase their knowledge of
French grammar, and re昀椀ne their written and oral expression. They engage in interactive
activities covering a wide range of topics, such as impressionist art, poetry of Pléiade,
written media, higher education, and the New Wave in French cinema. Students compare
and contrast cultural practices and perspectives of various French-speaking countries,
present in verbal and written work their research on the topics, and read and analyze
important pieces of literature, including excerpts from Albert Camus’s The Stranger
and Irene Némirovsky’s Le Bal.
FRENCH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE VI
This course offers an enriched learning experience to elevate students’ pro昀椀ciency
in the language by introducing compelling new study materials. The course places
a strong emphasis on active communication, honing grammar and writing skills,
and cultivating a deeper appreciation for the history, literature, and culture of the
Francophone world. Through exploration of diverse topics such as architecture,
poets of the negritude movement, discerning real from false information, social
media dynamics, environmental concerns, and social issues, students engage in
intellectually stimulating discussions that leverage their analytical skills developed
in other academic disciplines. This thematic approach provides context for
the review and application of advanced grammatical structures, fostering the
integration of these structures into their daily communication.
