FRENCH IV
WORLD LANGUAGES
On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur! L’essentiel est invisible avec les yeux. Like the Little
Prince whom French IV students meet at the end of their coursework, students in this class
learn more about themselves and the world around them as they delve deeper into their
language studies. In this class, students communicate in French at an intermediate to
beginning-advanced level. They work to understand the values represented by cultural
practices and historical narratives, interact in a wide variety of complex contexts, deepen
understanding of cultural texts, and create dialogues and short stories using past,
present, future, and hypothetical situations. In continuing to build and access cultural
knowledge, students grow in their knowledge of other content areas and their own
native language and culture. Through student-centered, project-based learning,
students develop ownership of and interest in the material. Students explore
themes related to health and healthy routines, storytelling, spending habits, French
Polynesian art and the novel, Le Petit Prince. Assessments include creating a
short story using the passé simple, conducting interviews, and creating an artistic
statement related to a student created work inspired by the art of la Polynésie.
Throughout the course, teachers use the target language for all class purposes.
Prerequisite: French III
Note: This course is open to students in grades 9-12.
FRENCH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE

collaborative projects and interactive assignments students apply their language
skills in real-world scenarios. Students are expected to use the target language
