SCIENCE 6: ENERGY AND CYCLES
In Science 6, students explore the question, “What is the role of cycles in scienti昀椀c
phenomena?” This course delves into the interconnected and cyclic nature of
matter such as nutrient and rock cycles, emphasizing hands-on learning and the
scienti昀椀c method. Students develop foundational skills in gardening, plant biology,
soil science, cycles of matter through composting, and nutrition. They design and
conduct their own experiments while growing their own produce in on-campus
garden plots. Finally, they investigate how community urban gardens can impact
the environment, health, and environmental justice. As they engage in hands-on
gardening projects and re昀氀ective practices, students learn to think and work like
scientists while making a positive impact on their community.
